Febb Burn (1873-1945) TN

Febb Burn
  • School teacher before marriage
  • Widowed in 1916, left to run the farm
  • Wrote a letter to her son, Tennessee Representative Harry T. Burn, that caused him to switch his vote from “no” on suffrage to “Aye.” That broke the tie and made Tennessee the 36th state to fully ratify the 19th Amendment making it no longer legal to deny the vote just because the citizen was female.

Quotes:

“Vote for suffrage, and don't keep them in doubt,”

“Don’t forget to be a good boy and help Mrs. ‘Thomas Catt’ with her ‘rats.’ Is she the one that put rat in ratification? Ha! No more from Mama this time. With lots of love.”
