MEDIA ADVISORY: Iconic 1914 Saxon “Suffrage Car” to arrive in Knoxville for Women’s History Month ERA Rally
Media event scheduled for Tuesday, March 17 at 10 a.m.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 15, 2026) – As part of the national "Driving the Vote for Equality Tour," the historic Golden Flyer II—a meticulously restored 1914 Saxon Roadster—will make a high-profile stop at the Women’s Suffrage Museum – Events & Cultural Center on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
The tour, led by ERA NOW and its Founder/CEO, The Honorable Carolyn B. Maloney, is traveling through 25 states, including Tennessee, to mobilize voters and collect signatures for the National Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) petition. The Saxon Roadster is the same make and model driven by suffragists during their legendary 10,700-mile cross-country campaign in 1916.
WHAT: Media event and Women’s History Month ERA Rally featuring the "Golden Flyer II" Saxon Roadster
WHO: Local and national ERA advocates, local politicians and historians, including Wanda Sobieski, Founder and President of the Suffrage Coalition and Kathy Bonk, a long-time feminist activist and Strategic Advisory to Ms. Magazine.
WHEN: Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
WHERE: Women’s Suffrage Museum - Events & Cultural Center (706 & 708 South Gay Street, Knoxville, Tenn. 37902)
Historical Significance & Modern Mission:
In 1916, women’s suffrage was stalled. Today, advocates argue the ERA faces a similar standstill. The 2026 tour serves as a visual bridge between these two eras, aiming to collect one million signatures by Election Day to urge Congress to recognize the ERA as the 28th Amendment.
The Knoxville stop follows a series of successful events across the East Coast, including stops at the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial and the Virginia State Capitol.
Media Opportunities:
- Visuals: The bright gold vintage 1914 Saxon car, advocates in period suffrage costumes, and historic banners.
- Interviews: On-camera interviews available with Wanda Sobieski, Founder and President of the Suffrage Coalition and Kathy Bonk, a long-time feminist activist and Strategic Advisor to Ms. Magazine. While Carolyn B. Maloney, Founder and CEO of ERA NOW, cannot attend Tuesday’s event, she is available for phone interviews, as needed.
- B-Roll: Footage of the "Golden Flyer II" arriving at the memorial and supporters signing the national petition.
About ERA NOW:
ERA NOW is a national organization dedicated to the final certification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Under the leadership of Carolyn Maloney, the organization seeks to eliminate time limits on ratification and ensure gender equality is permanently enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.
